The Route 66 Rendezvous®
Honors

As the personification of the competitive racing spirit
and as a member of the 2003 Cruisin' Hall of Fame

Winning the first two USAC National Sprint Car Championships in 1961 and 1962, Parnelli Jones earned a special place in racing history with his memorable duels against drivers like Jim Hurtubise and A. J. Foyt. A keen observer of technique, Jones went to Indianapolis in 1960 not as a driver but as a student. He returned in 1961 to become Rookie of the Year. In 1962, he became the first driver to crack the 150 mph barrier at the Brickyard, a prestigious racing event.  Jones has conquered nearly every form of auto racing, and even carried a fledgling branch of the sport on his famous shoulders for a while until it could stand on its own. Few drivers have had broader impact on the racing industry. Jones was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1992.

as the first company to mass produce tires for the
automobile industry and as a member
of the 2003 Cruisin' Hall of Fame.

Established in 1900, the Firestone Tire & Rubber Company was the first company to mass-produce tires for the automobile industry.  Since their first Indy 500 win in 1911, 50 cars riding on Firestone tires would go on to ultimately win 50 races at the Brickyard.  Operations were consolidated in 1990 under a unified organization called Bridgestone/Firestone Inc.  Operating 1500 retail outlets in the United States, Bridgestone/Firestone sells over 50 million tires per year, making them one of the largest tire manufactures in the world.

A love for cars, trucks and SUVs is the motivating force behind the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA). This trade association consists of a diverse group of manufacturers, distributors, retailers, publishing companies, auto restorers, street rod builders, restylers, car clubs, race teams and more.  Today, the nearly 40-year-old organization performs many services for its members and for the hobby as a whole. Perhaps most importantly, SEMA works hard to protect consumers’ rights to drive accessorized, customized and vintage vehicles.
