Congratulations to the 2009 winners of the Open Header Contest
presented by The Press-Enterprise!

  • The 2009 winner for being the Loudest Open Header came down to a tie-breaker. Both David Wishaw with his '68 Chevy Chevelle and Brian Bolduc with his '65 Ford Mustang both blew 121 decibels the first time around, the highest scores of the day. In the re-match, the '68 Chevy Chevelle went first and was able to kick it up a notch to 122 decibels. Brian Boldac tried again, but scored another 121. Congratulations to both for an exciting match.

  • The Crowd Pleaser was awarded to Brian Boldac, which is a 3-peat for him. This is his 3rd year in a row that he has taken the Crowd Pleaser award.

Open Header Contestant

What is the Open Header Contest?
Contestants pull their vehicle in front of the judges table and rev the engine to its loudest point.  These vehicles have no exhaust systems attached to the headers, thus the term "Open Header."

Where is the contest held?
The Open Header Contest will be held on 3rd Street between Arrowhead Avenue and Sierra Way next to Meadowbrook Park.

When is the contest held?
On Saturday, September 18, 2010 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Check-in begins at 2:30 p.m.

Does it cost to enter the contest?
The Open Header Contest is open to cars registered for the Route 66 Rendezvous only.  There is no cost to enter this contest.


Open Header Contest Spectators

How is the contest judged?
There are two categories: Loudest and Best Sounding. Each contestant is judged by using a decibel meter. The vehicle with the loudest reading is the winner.

What does the winner receive?
The Loudest wins a rebuilt Engine donated by Wayne's Engine Rebuilders. All other winners receive an award plaque.

The winners are announced immediately after the event.
